Run Fatboy Run - DVD Review

Simon Pegg returns with, another great comedy. I totally loved this movie, if you liked Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz, you’ll like this one too.

The premise: 5 years after leaving his pregnant bride at the altar, Dylan Doyal tries to prove he has changed and can finish what he starts, by running a marathon, in hopes of winning back the love of his life.
The cast is great, Simon Pegg for my money is one of the top comedic actors going, he plays a slacker entirely too well, and I find his offbeat yet low key delivery refreshing compared to the over the top Will Farrell and Ben Stiller style of humour.

The rest of the cast is, as the English say, “spot on” as well. Thandie Newton and Hank Azaria are great (who knew the guy was in shape?), Dylan Moran and Harish Patel are hilarious, but the real scene stealer is young Mathew Fenton as Jake, the kid’s role may be small but he is excellent.

The movie itself is paced well, with a generous blend of humor and heart, but since it’s a comedy we’ll focus on the humor.  The script was co-written by Simon Pegg and Michael Ian Black, which explains why it fits Peggs style perfectly, and mixes small amounts of gross out humor, with, with great sight gags, witty dialogue (The scene in the bakery is great),

Runtime: 100 minutes (For a movie about a marathon it sure didn’t feel like one.)
